Explanation Writing

Room 4 read "Adventures of a Water Bottle" on Friday and translated what they learnt into an explanation writing. We had no idea the long process that occurs before the bottle ends in our hand!

Writing Diamante Poems

Room 4 published their Diamante Poems today with the inspiration of our Olympic athletes. Diamante poems are created using nouns, adjectives and verbs in a particular pattern. Check out our slideshow!

Creative math

Insects insects insects

Our topic this term is tiny tyrants and mighty midgets which is focused around insects and bugs in our environments.
The children completed an activity based on identifying minibeasts that are insects and non insects. 

Chrome books

Room 4 have been lucky enough to have received a class set of 15 chrome books to benefit us in our learning :)
This is us using the chrome books for writing and we have even learnt how to share our writing with others and comment on our buddies work!
You may start receiving your child's writing in your email account as they have learnt how to share it with their parents.

Environmental writing

This morning we had to draw and write about clouds.
Everyone produced powerful pieces of writing with a variety of rich language features.

Town library

We love going to the town library and looking at the different varieties of books!

Art days

Last week room 4 had their art days. They worked on two projects and wow, they turned out fantastic! Come into class and  check them out. They are on display and we have already received lots of compliments.

We are making bookmarks to use when reading at school and at home. Our bookmarks have to include our name and marine creatures.
They all look very cool!

Starfish

Today for reading room 4 learnt about the body parts of a starfish and how they eat their prey! We also learnt how an octopus traps and eats their prey. It was very interesting. Did you know a starfish' stomach comes our of its body and gobbles it's prey. The children then drew a labeled picture of a starfish or an octopus.

This morning everyone in room 4 shared their show don't tell writing about 1 of the seasons! What powerful rich language!

Town library

Room 4 visited the library last week. we love going to the town library to look at a large range of books.
If you haven't got a town library card head down and sign up for free and it's a life time membership!

Sea shell and starfish writing

This morning we wrote about our choice of sea she'll or star fish using the language feature 'show don't tell'. The children are in the process if publishing their stories and hopefully they will be up on display in our classroom over the next few days.

Fun day

On Tuesday we had a sand castle competition at the beach, walked on the new walkway and played on the playground at captain Morgan's!  The weather was lovely and the children made some awesome sand castles.

Sleep over

On Monday night we had our sleep over at school. It was a great time with lots of laughs. It was also neat to see the children interacting and working within their cooperative groups outside of the classroom context.
A massive thank you to our parent helpers, we would not have been able to sleep over at school without you!

Marine Reserve

On Monday we went out to the Marine reserve and what a fun filled day it was!! We saw a variety of sea creatures whilst snorkeling such as kin, paua, crayfish, crabs, fish and many more!
A big thank you to Amy and Joe who helped us before and during our marine adventure.

Snorkel training

Children in Room 4 practiced their snorkeling skills in our school pool before we ventured out into the marine reserve. They were very focused during 5 his training session

Room 4 and 12 buddy reading

Room 4 have been working with their buddy class Room 12. They have been awesome role models and are showing the kind aspect of our school! We read we Room 12 once a week. All children in Room 4 enjoy having a buddy class and have really stepped up as the bigger children of the school. Ka pai!
